Need for Speed: Digital Dependence is here

January 21, 2021

The Digital Divide has created vast inequalities, especially in underserved rural areas.

Once considered a luxury, the pandemic has made it crystal clear that access to usable broadband is now essential to conducting business, educating our children, healthcare and many other daily tasks. Urbanites often take high-speed connectivity for granted.

25/3 Mbps is not fast enough to handle today’s internet needs

The FCC considers a 25/3 Mbps connection as adequate but our accelerating digital dependence makes those speeds worthless for most of today’s applications – and that will only get worse.

President Biden promised throughout his campaign that part of his “Build back better” campaign would focus on “universal broadband for every American”.

It remains to be seen just how the new administration will set out to accomplish this but if past government action is any indicator, it will be in the form of low-interest loans, tax incentives and grants to build networks into the underserved areas.

We applaud the effort to build fiber networks as the best way to future-proof the taxpayer’s investment. The cost will be high but there is no way around it if we intend to wipe out the Internet inequalities associated with living in rural America.

The problem with this approach is it takes time and Americans need Internet access now.

Kinetx Prime offers solutions that are available today.

Our solutions are truly “plug and play” that can deliver good, usable broadband speeds out of the box. One recent installation in a rural Georgia home could only get a sub-10 Mbps on DSL. Kinetx Prime’s Halo was installed and they immediately were able to receive 98 Mbps!
